Louis Saint-Angel of the Dove

Louis Saint-Angel of the Dove says the knight of the Dove, born the August 29th 1755 with Saint-Jean-with-Nay, is a close relation of Fayette, it takes an active part with this one in the Guerre of Independence of the United States and in the French revolution.

Biography

22 years old, it takes passage to Bordeaux the March 21st 1777 on board Victoire, vessel bought by Fayette. With him are reproduced on the list of the passengers the Baron de Kalb and several officers enlisted by this last and Fayette to fight in America. They arrive the June 13rd 1777 in the port of South Inlet, in South Carolina.

Named voluntary aide-de-camp of Fayette, he as well as possible discharges confidential missions at the time of the campaigns of 1777 - 1778. Captain in the army of the United States (1779), it regains France where it is promoted with the rank of captain of Dragons of the regiment of the king (1780).

With the second forwarding, it takes part in many combat and the decisive victory of Yorktown in Virginia in 1781.

Made in France knight of the royal and military Order of Saint-Louis, it is also titular of the American order of Cincinnatus (1784). It is received, on recommendation of Fayette, with the Bodyguards of the count d' Artois (1785).

In 1789, it is with the Puy where it supports the candidature of Charles César de Fay of the Turn-Maubourg for the seat of deputy of the nobility of the seneschalsy for the General states.

Named by Fayette general major of the Parisian National guard helps (August 12th, 1789), he is appointed with the monitoring of the royal family and that of the Dolphin the shortly after the escape of Varennes. He becomes colonel of the 104e regiment (August 1791), aide-de-camp of Fayette (1792) and crosses the border in August 1792, at the same time as the Turn-Maubourg, Sicard, Jean Louis Romeuf and Jacques Alexandre Romeuf, all the entourage of the marquis. Regarded as emigrant during the imprisonment of this one, it is in London, with Romeuf (1793), then, after its release, it joined it with Vianen (Holland), where they gather materials to write his memories (1798).

Striped list of the emigrants in 1799, subsequently to this date where one meets it with Philadelphia, it is not mentioned any more its name. He would have died in this city, after having made stock there, about 1802.
