Quotations
- “liberalism poses limits with the intervention of the State by the recognition of the civil rights, moderates the executive power by legislative control and the judicial power, protects the individual against the abuses from the public power, admits the representation of the minorities and the rights of the opposition, holds the large open string where clash, under the supervision of the law, the competitions individual and tie to the social solidarities…” the economic Mystics, Paris, Librairie of Médicis, 1938, p. 15.
- “the moral drama of our time, it is the blindness of the men of the left who dream of a political democracy and of an economic planning without understanding that planning implies the totalitarian State. The moral drama of our time, it is the blindness of the men of the right who sigh of admiration in front of the totalitarian modes, while asserting the advantages of a capitalist economy, without realizing that the totalitarian State devours the private fortune, puts at the step and bureaucratise all shapes of economic activity of the country”, intervention with the Colloque Walter Lippmann, 1938
- “the liberalism manufacturer, which is true liberalism, does not allow that one uses freedom to kill freedom… Liberalism manchestérien (that of “let make, let pass”) could be compared with a road mode which would let the cars circulate without highway code. The obstructions, the traffic holdups, the accidents, would be innumerable… The socialist State is similar to a mode of circulation where an central authority would fix imperatively at each one when it must leave its car, where it must go and by which way… The truly liberal State is that where the motorists are free of going where good seems to them, but by respecting the highway code…” economic mystics, Paris, Librairie of Médicis, 1938
