Biography
Named as of 1812 lieutenant of the Cuirassier S of the French army , it takes part in the last military campaigns of the First Empire, and in particular in the battles of Lutzen, Bautzen, Leipzig and of Hanau.After the French Restoration, it orders a company of the guard of the Bourbons before turning over to Geneva in 1823. In 1837, it is named federal Colonel. In parallel, it launches out in the policy to Geneva. It adheres as of 1839 to the Association of Three-March founded by James Fazy and of which the goal is to reverse the cantonal government. It is, according to Lullin “animated by a desire of revenge against a capacity which put it side”. This same year, the Genevese government indeed names Guillaume-Henri Dufour, preferred in Rilliet, as commander of the Genevese troops at the time of the Hésitation of 1830. At the side of Fazy, of which it does not share the political sights, it is named to advise State until March 4th, 1848 of May 31st, 1847 when it resigns of its station.
At the time of the War of Sonderbund, it is named ordering the first division of the confederated army, again under the orders of the general Dufour. It takes part in the catch of Freiburg before being sent in the Chablais of Vaud to block there the troops Valais year. It is there that it receives, the October 29th, the réditition of the Valaisan government which marks the end of the war.
In 1852, he is the first chief of the Swiss Cavalerie, of which it remains, until in 1856 with its death, inspector federal.
