Louis Remacle (Liege)
Louis Remacle , born with Neuville; September 30th, 1910, deceased with Verviers on May 10th, 1997, is a Belgian philologist and Walloon militant. He is also prize winner of the Prix Francqui and academician. One also regards it as a writer of Walloon language important.
Doctor of Romance philology of the University of Liege (1932), Louis Remacle taught first of all with the Athénée of Seraing (1935 - 1946). He is named professor at the University of Liege in 1946 and it had already succeeded it Jean Haust for the pulpit of Dialectologie in 1938. It reaches the pulpit of Orthophonie in 1944 and the Latin vulgar in 1946. Its doctoral thesis on the speech of Stavelot, model of scientific monograph is published by the royal Académie of language and French literature of Belgium.
It showed in 1948 in the problem of old the Walloon that, concerning in any case the French literature written in Wallonia with the Middle Ages, it is not a question strictly speaking of the Wallon like such, but of a French language strewn with dialectal features . In analysis of texts French litttéraires he exerted a great influence by the Cahiers of the textual analysis which he directed of 1959 to 1979. He is known also like poet of Walloon language and the Anthologie of the Walloon literature of Maurice Piron makes him an enviable place. It was among the godfathers of the Walloon cultural Congress of Liege in 1955.
In 1956, it receives the Francqui Price.
In 1947 with 52 others academicians, it signs the petition Wallonia in alarm drawing the attention to the need for placing after the adaption of the seats to the Chambre and the Sénat, because the vote of such a law on the adaptation of the seats would condemn Wallonia to a perpetual minority and it is necessary on the contrary that one guarantees to Wallonia the existence as a Nationalité . This letter sent to the two rooms did not prevent that, indeed, the adaptation in question takes place in 1961.
Maurice Piron grants to him an important place in the Anthologie of the Walloon literature
