Louis Remacle

Louis Marie Joseph Remacle (1840-1900)

Count, lawyer and politician French (mayor of Arles, sub-prefect the Holy ones, of Bayonne, prefect of Pau).

Biography

Its family is of modest origin, with a grandfather hatter with Avignon. His/her father Bernard Benoit Remacle, become lawyer, settles with Arles about the years 1830 and becomes mayor of the city in 1850 - 1855. Louis Marie Joseph Remacle is born in Arles in 1840. After studies of right, it begins with the bar from Arles in 1868 and becomes mayor of the city in 1871 - 1872. In 1872, it marries Marie-Louise Brun of which it will have a girl and two wire.

In 1873, it continues a career of high-civil servant, initially as sub-prefect of Saintes in 1873, of Bayonne in 1873 then as prefect of the Low-Pyrenees. It contributes to the arrest of Gift Carlos, which plots for the throne of Spain. In thanks, it is named Grand Cross of the royal Order of Isabelle the catholic with the title of excellence.

In 1878, it leaves the administration and is withdrawn in Arles. It is devoted to the literature and journalism. He writes in particular in the review of Provence the Aïoli under the pseudonym of Jan say Areneto . In April 1884, the pope Black and white IX the anoblit for rendered services. It is divided then between the town of Arles and Paris where it dies in 1900. Its funerals take place in the basilica Saint-Trophime of Arles and it is buried in its city with the cemetery of Arles-center.

Since 1956, a street of Arles with Trinquetaille honors its memory.
