Louis Marcellin Bureau is a doctor and Zoologiste French, born with Nantes on November 18th, 1847 and died in the same city on December 14th, 1936. It resulted from a family of ship-owners and scientists Nantes.
Biography
From 1853 to 1867, the totality of its schooling proceeds in Nantes. It is successively received science graduate in Paris in July 1867 then arts graduate in Rennes in August 1869. It then moves worms of the studies of medicine, initially in Nantes then in Paris, and supports its thesis of doctorate in medicine ( Essai on the significance of the cœcum ) in February 1877. It will be named the same year chief of anatomical work in Nantes.Since its childhood and throughout its life, in spite of this medical orientation, it will be in fact much more interested by the Natural history: it is a complete naturalist having of the knowledge extended in Géologie, Botanique, zoology and especially in Ornithologie. Its competences will initially be worth to him (1885) to be titular pulpit of botany and zoology of the Medical school of Nantes.
But he will be especially the director-conservative of the Natural history museum of natural history of Nantes of November 1882 in October 1919, dates to which he takes his retirement. This long period of activity initially enables him to constitute, organize and enrich the collections by the natural history museum of Nantes. It will make for that of many voyages in France and abroad and will be in the beginning many articles on the birds of which some will make date.
He is bachelor of science natural in 1883 and correspondent of the national Muséum of natural history in 1889. He will be in addition one of the founders of the zoological Company of France, will found itself the Company of the natural science of the west of France, will be honorary president of the ornithological and mammalogic Company of France and member of the international ornithological Committee.
