Study of a Work

Raphaël shows to the pope Jules II the statue of Apollo whom he discovered , Nantes Musée of the Art schools. Very astonishing night composition, where the scene is slightly lit by torches and a moonlight. In the foreground on the left, back, the statue of the Apollo dominates many crowd. The Raphaël young person in grinding bottoms and justaucorps presents to the pope the effigy of the pagan god. Jules II sitted on an armchair perched on a estrade remains fascinated by this discovery. At his sides a prelate does not seem to share his enthusiasm. The confrontation of the young god of the ancient beauty and the successor of Pierre, represented as an old man, still capable of artistic passion is returned perfectly by this masterpiece of Lemasle
