Louis Mexandeau
Louis Mexandeau is a French politician, born the July 6th 1931 with Wanquetin (Pas-de-Calais).
Born close from Arras in 1931, the young person Louis Mexandeau saw the war in a Protestant family, engaged in the Résistance with an off-set father.
An aggregation in history obtained, he becomes professor of university and settles in the Caen-native area.
In 1965, it meets François Mitterrand. With Pierre Joxe, Claude Estier, Charles Hernu and Louis Mermaz, it militates within the Convention of the republican institutions and the Fédération of the democratic and socialist left. It forms part during 30 years of the circle of faithful of Mitterrand, which brings this last to the head of the Socialist party following the Congrès of Épinay in 1973, then to the presidency of the Republic in 1981. He is in particular the author of the socialist project for the school published in 1978.
In 1973, he is the first deputy of the Apple-brandy of left of the Fifth Republic, mandate of which he will resign in 1981 during his nomination as Ministre for the postal and telecommunications authorities on May 22nd, 1981. He is re-elected in 1986, until his new ministerial nomination in 1991, then in 1993 until 2002. Not yielding vis-a-vis the national office of the PS which wanted to replace it by Jack Lang because of the loss of the town hall of Hérouville-Saint-Clearly and Lisieux in 2001, it is beaten by UDF Rodolphe Thomas, recent mayor of Hérouville.
Strong man of socialism Low Norman, it tries vainly during thirty years, in parallel of his mandate of member of Parliament, to charm the town hall of Caen to Jean-Marie Girault then in 2001 against Brigitte Brethon (42,08% against 57,92%), of which there remains elected of opposition. He is associated member of the Académie of Caen.
