Louis Mermaz

Louis Mermaz is a Politician French, born the August 20th 1931 with Paris. He is qualified schoolteacher of history and militates with the UDSR where he is one of the lieutenants of François Mitterrand by occupying the function of assistant general secretary since 1957. It participation in the foundation of the Convention of the republican institutions in 1965. He is elected appointed FGDS of the Isere in 1967, beaten in 1968, he finds his seat in 1973 and is constantly re-elected until 1993. In 1971, he becomes member of the national management of the socialist party.

After the victory of the left, he is briefly Minister for the Equipment and Transport from May 22nd to June 22nd, 1981 in the Gouvernement Pierre Mauroy (1). He is elected president of the National Assembly, function which he until April 1st, 1986 exerts during all the legislature of July 2nd, 1981.

After the re-election of François Mitterrand and the victory of the left in 1988, he is again Minister for Transport from May 12th to June 23rd, 1988 in the Gouvernement Michel Rocard (1), he is then president of the socialist group of the National Assembly (1988-1990). He is Minister for Agriculture and Forestry in the governments Michel Rocard (2), Edith Cresson and Pierre Bérégovoy from October 3rd, 1990 to October 2nd, 1992, then Minister for the relations with the Parliament, government spokesman, until March 29th, 1993. He is not re-elected with the National Assembly in 1993. He sits again at the Palate-Bourbon of 1997 to 2001 then is elected with the Sénat on September 23rd, 2001. Louis Mermaz was Regional adviser of the Rhone-Alps, president of the general advice of Isere until 1985 and mayor of Vienna as from 1971.
