Louis Martin (doctor)

Louis Martin (born the September 20th 1864 with the Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, France - died the June 13rd 1946 with Paris) was a Médecin and Bactériologiste French whose work on the Diphtérie made it possible to make progress research on this disease, which, at the end of the 19th century, was the greatest cause of Infant mortality in France (several tens of thousands of case each year) and still killed: 3000 children per annum in 1924.

Biography

Louis Martin practiced with Emile Roux the first injections of anti-diphtheric serum.

In 1897, it supports its Thèse of doctorate in medicine: Production of diphteric toxin

He was elected with the Académie of medicine in 1919 and with the Academy of Science in 1937.
