Louis Maimbourg

Louis Maimbourg (January 10th 1610 with Nancy - August 13rd 1686 with Paris) is a man of the church and Historien French.

He entered in 1626 at the Jésuite S and continued his studies with Rome. He taught during ten years humanities with the College of the Jesuits of Rouen, then became Prédicateur. He supported violent polemics with the Jansenists and disputed to in particular them Traduction of the Bible. Its “Treaties of controversy” were worth to him to be expelled of its kind by the pope Innocent XI in 1681, but Louis XIV granted a pension to him and the right to reside at the Saint-Victor abbey of Paris.

He was a prolific historian whose Voltaire complained that it too much was neglected and of which he said in his Siècle of Louis XIV : “There are still some of its stories which one does not read without pleasure. It had initially too much vogue, and it then too much was neglected.
