Louis Magnus
Louis Magnus (May 25th 1881, Kingston (Jamaica) - 1 {{er}} November 1950) arrived in France in 1889. Very quickly, it was interested in the winter sports. He was champion of France of Figure skating with 5 recoveries, in particular of 1908 with 1911.
Noting the differences between the various payments used by the hockeyeurs in the world, it initially wished to entrust to the International union Ice-skating the unifomisation of the rules. In front of the refusal of this one to manage hockey, it organized the May 15th 1908, the inaugural meeting of the “international league of hockey-on-ice” (which will become then “international The ice hockey federation”) with Paris. It invited to it the Great Britain, the Suisse and the Belgium. The purpose of this creation was of unfier different the payment from existing at that time.
One indicates it of this fact as being the founder of the international federation of hockey. He was also the first president.
The trophy given to the champions of France, creates in 1985, names “Coupe Magnus” in homage to this character. The Championship of France of hockey also adopted the name of Ligue Magnus at the time of the season 2004-2005.
In 1997, it is allowed on a purely posthumous basis with the Temple of famous the of the IIHF.
