Louis Lapicque
Louis Edouard Lapicque , born the 1866 with Épinal and dead the December 7th 1952 with Paris, was a Physiologiste French, specialist in the Nervous system and known for its discovery of the Chronaxie.
Wire of a veterinary surgeon, it follows his schooling to the college of Épinal where it takes part in 1884 in the creation of the first club of Football of the Vosges. After its baccalaureat, it leaves to Paris to finish its studies and becomes doctor of medicine and sciences.
As of 1892, it accomplishes several voyages in the Far East in order to undertake its studies on human morphology. Thanks to its two doctorates, it obtains a post of lecturer to the Faculty of Science of Paris in 1899 before being appointed professor with the pulpit of general physiology. Being member of the Academy of Medicine and Academy of Science, he undertakes, as of 1903, of work on human nervous exitability by the electric current and he contributes to the development of the Neurologie.
Republican and freemason, it militates for the socialist ideas , the Laïcité, freedoms of worship and of thought and the women's rights. Altruist, it does not present himself however to any election but request to be useful as army medical officer in 1914 - 1915. He becomes then head doctor with the 53e regiment of infantry. He does not forget his native area and takes part with Maurice Pottecher, Eugene Gley and Jules Méline with the Vosgean association of Paris. He is also the initiator of the newspaper the Vosgean Workman .
A Lycée bears its name in Épinal.
