Louis Knight

Louis Knight , born with the Pivot-on-Sea (the Vendée), the May 29th 1911 and died in Paris on August 3rd, 2001, is a Historien and Démographe French, professor with the Collège de France and specialist in the Parisian medium. It brought a new method of social description.

Biography

After its primary schooling with the Pivot-on-Sea, and secondary with Luçon, then with Rheims and the College Henri-Iv, it is allowed in 1932 with the National university, from where it leaves four years later aggregate history.

He is initially professor with the college of Rheims, then he enters, in 1941, with INED. In parallel, he teaches the Démographie and the general history of the 20th century to the Institut of political studies of Paris.

It is in 1951 that it supports with the Sorbonne its thesis of doctorate be-letters on “the economic and social bases of the history of the Paris region”. He is then elected with the Collège de France, where he is titular pulpit of history and structures social of Paris and Paris region, of 1952 with 1981.

He is also in charge of historical research for the National institute of demographic studies, adviser of many prefects of the Seine, of which Emile Pelletier, in charge of the social sciences to the Comité of the 12 of the scientific research created by Charles de Gaulle, creator and president of the international Center of studies of the human problems of Monaco.

Its work working Classes and dangerous classes in Paris during first half of the 19th century century renewed the study of the crime and inspired by many university work. It was also an important information source for many novelists and scenario writers.
