Louis Jules Trochu

Louis-Jules Trochu (born the March 12th 1815 with the Palate on Belle-Ile-en-mer - deceased the October 7th 1896 with Turns) is a Major general French of the 19th century. Raise of Saint-Cyr military school and School of application of staff, governor of Paris, he was president of the government of national defense in 1870.

Biography

Officer, Louis Jules Trochu is useful in Algérie, the Crimea, Italy and obtains the rank of Général in 1866. Its book the French Army in 1867, where he denounces the disorganization of the imperial army, involves its disgrace.

However popularity that it acquires the fact of it of naming governor of Paris the 17  August 1870, during the Franco-German War of 1870.

September 4th 1870, Paris which takes care it learned the capitulation from the army in front of Sedan and the captivity of Napoleon III, invades the National Assembly and prevents the legislative body from deliberating. The Republic is proclaimed with the Town hall. The Trochu General becomes president of the Gouvernement of National defense and, in fact, Head of the State. The 31  October 1870, people of Paris, realizing of its inconsistency, proclamation against Trochu and its government. It succeeds in being maintained and proclaims: “the governor of Paris will not capitulate. ” the 19  January 1871 takes place the disastrous exit of the walls of Paris for the Bataille of Buzenval where the incapacity (or the duplicity) of Trochu appears. Its dismissal is required.

He resigns of itself the 22  January after one crashing to pieces declaration in which he recommends actually the capitulation. Replaced by Joseph Vinoy, he is elected appointed in February. But, since 1872, it leaves the political scene. Victor Hugo marked it of a shingling definition: “Trochu, takes part last of the verb Trop Choir. ” Repeating unceasingly “I have my plan” , it was convinced that any resistance and any defense of Paris were vain. He dies in Tours the October 7th 1896.
