Louis II of Vendôme
Louis II of Vendôme , (1612 - 1669), duke of Mercœur (1612), then second duke of Vendôme (1665 - 1669), duke of Stamps (1665), count de Penthièvre (1665). He is the son of César, duke of Vendôme, and Francoise of Lorraine.
He carried the title of duke of Mercœur of living of his father. He married in 1651 Laure Mancini, niece of Jules Mazarin, which gave him:
- Louis Joseph (1654 - 1712), duke of Vendôme
- Philippe (1655 - 1727), known as the prior of Vendôme
- Jules César (1657 - 1660)
He had initially a military career and was named governor of Provence in 1640.
But, to died of his wife (1657), it entered the orders. It became cardinal ( the Cardinal of Vendôme ) and legate of France.
