Louis II of Bourbon-Cop known as the Large Cop , first prince of blood, known initially under the title of duke of Enghien , (born with Paris the September 8th 1621, died with Fontainebleau the December 11th 1686) Prince de Condé, duke of Bourbon, Duke of Enghien, duke of Montmorency, Duke of Chateauroux, Duke of Bellegarde, Duke of Fronsac, governor of Berry, Count de Sancerre (1646 - 1686), count of Even Charolais (starting from 1684), of France, First prince of blood. The three first wire of Henri II of Bourbon and Charlotte Marguerite de Montmorency, having died in low age, Louis accepted the title of “duke of Enghien”. It made solids studies at the Jésuite S, with Bourges and at age the 17 years, controlled the Duché of Burgundy for his/her father. Biography

He showed in the military career an early genius. After brilliant military beginnings, it accepted in 1643, at the 21 years age, the command of the Armée with Picardy, under the orders of the marshal of the Hospital. It was a question of barring the road with the Spanish army of the king Philippe IV of Spain left the Comté of Flanders to invade the France.

The May 19th, five days after the death of Louis XIII, Enghien gained heroically the bright victory of the Bataille of Rocroi against the frightening Spaniards then by their Infanterie.

It was then sent on the the Rhine, at the sides of the Vicomte of Turenne Henri of the Tower of Auvergne-Bubble. In 1644, it beat the Germans with Freiburg. It gained with Turenne the battles of Nördlingen in 1645 against Franz von Mercy (Guerre Thirty Year old). In 1646, with died of his/her father, it became 4 {{E}} prince de Condé.

It took Dunkirk in 1646. Less happy in Catalonia, it could not take Lérida; but it gained soon after in Comté of Artois the victory of Lens over the archduke Léopold Ier of the Holy roman Empire which brought peace with the Germanic Empire in 1648. During the disorders of the Sling, it adopted an ambiguous attitude. It had initially defended the court of the child king Louis XIV regent by his mother Anne of Austria and by the Cardinal Prime Minister Mazarin, then taken then party against Mazarin.

Its support for the queen mother Anne of Austria allowed initially the signature of the Paix of Rueil. Nevertheless, in 1649, by competition with Mazarin, it turned to the Fronde.

The January 18th 1650, it, its brother the Prince de Conti Armand of Bourbon and its brother-in-law the duke of Longueville Henri II of Orleans were thrown in prison and underwent a thirteen months detention.

The February 7th 1651, in front of the union of the Slings, Mazarin flees and released the princes. Cop took the head of the Fronde of the princes, in spite of the majority of his large cousin, Louis XIV. He negotiated with the king Philippe IV of Spain and the Lord Protecteur English Oliver Cromwell.

He raised troops, went on Paris. Against him, Louis XIV 14 years old succeeds in gaining the Vicomte of Turenne Henri of the Tower of Auvergne-Bubble which took the head of the royal troops and demolished the prince with the Bataille of Bléneau the April 7th 1652, to Étampes in May then with the Faubourg Saint-Anthony with Paris.

The duchess of Montpensier Anne Marie Louise of Orleans (the Large Miss) made fire the gun on the royal troops to make it possible his/her cousin to take refuge in Paris.

Cop gained then the Comté of Flanders passed on the Spanish side and took share in 1658 with the battles of the Dunes, where Turenne triumphed. The Traité of the Pyrenees of 1659 ensured to him royal forgiveness, proclaimed with Aix-en-Provence, little before the marriage of Louis XIV and the infante Marie-Therese of Austria.

In 1671 the April 21st, it receives during three days Louis XIV then 33 years old and the 3000 members of the course of Versailles in its Château of Chantilly or it makes give a sumptuous festival and sumptuous banquets organized by François Vatel to reconcile and obtain the grace and the favors of the king, which it obtains because the king with need for his support.

The war being relit between the France and the Spain, Condé found a command in the armies of the king and conquered the Comté of Burgundy (current Franche-Comté) with the Habsbourg of Spain in three weeks in 1668.

It fights again at the sides of the royal armies of Turenne at the time of the Guerre of Holland, in 1672 or it beat the prince d' Orange Guillaume III of England to the Bataille of Seneffe in 1674, then passed in Alsace to defend this province against Raimondo Montecuccoli, Généralissime of the armies of the Germanic Empire after the death of Turenne in 1675.

The king receives it in large pump in top of the large marble staircase in the middle of all the court. Cop, anchylosed of rheumatisms, has sorrow to go up and makes a little await Louis XIV. Whereas it presents excuses, the king says to him with courtesy: " My cousin, when one is charged with bay-trees like you, one can walk only difficilement."

He finishes his life in his Château of Chantilly, surrounded musicians and poets, cultivating the letters and conversing with Racine, Boileau and Molière. His/her son Henri Jules de Bourbon succeeded to him like 5 {{E}} prince de Condé.

All its life, Louis de Condé had been the heart of the party Libertin. Voltaire reproaches him like a sign of senility his conversion to the devout party the two last years of his life. Indeed, non-equivocal sign of this conversion, Jacques Bénigne Bossuet pronounced on its coffin a Funeral oration which remained a masterpiece of the kind.
