Louis Hercules Timoléon of Thimble-Brissac

Louis Hercules Timoléon of Thimble-Brissac, duke of Brissac (1734 - 1792), born with Paris, the February 14th 1734, assassinated with Versailles, the September 9th 1792, par and Large panetier of France, governor of Paris, captain colonel of the hundred Swiss ones of the guard of the king, and knight of his kinds.

Biography

He was one of largest at the Court of Louis XV and Louis XVI, wire of Jean Paul Timoléon of Thimble-Brissac, large Panetier, Gouverneur of Paris under Louis XV and colonel of the Members of the Swiss Guards, commander-in-chief of the constitutional Garde of the King of Louis XVI (1791).

The May 29th 1792, the Parliament exaggeratedly issues the Dissolution of this body suspected of opinions Royaliste S and of inculpation of its marked chief there to make reign a spirit Contre-révolutionnaire and to have made lend oath to its men the oath to accompany the king everywhere where it would go. Sent to the prison of Orleans while waiting to be judged by the High-Court, the duke of Thimble-Brissac is then transferred to Versailles, but the separate prisoners of their escort, are delivered to a band of sticker S which claimed them. It was killed at the time of the transfer to Versailles of the prisoners of Orleans, his mutilated and cut up corpse.

Man of little spirit but great force and great courage, it resisted his assassins a long time, accepted several wounds and was finally killed by a blow of saber. He had always been characterized by his devotion to Louis XVI, and he answered somebody who testified to him much to admiration for his control:

I do only what I owe with his ancestors and the miens.

Its virtues and its death inspired with Delille the beautiful ones towards in the 5th song of the poem of Pity . One also finds envieuses anecdotes on the duke of Brissac in the interesting work entitled Paris, Versailles and the provinces .
