Louis Gaston of Orleans-Bragance

Louis Gaston Marie Joseph pi Michel Gabriel Raphaël Gonzague of Orleans-Bragance , “imperial Prince of Brazil”, was born on June 6th 1938 with Mandelieu, in France. It is elder Branche of Vassouras, connects junior by the House of Orleans-Bragance and is, as such, one of the two applicants to the throne of Brazil.

Family

Dom Louis-Gaston is the oldest son of Pierre Henri of Orleans-Bragance (1909-1981), “imperial prince of Brazil”, and his wife Marie de Wittelsbach (1914), princess of Bavaria. In male line, he is also the great-grandson of Isabelle de Bragance, imperial princess and several times regent of Brazil.

Louis-Gaston is unmarried and without child. Its heir is its second brother, Bertand of Orleans-Bragance (1941), “prince of the Grão-Para”, because the first, Eudes of Orleans-Bragance (1939), gave up its rights to the Brazilian throne.

Biography

Although the Loi of exile concerning the members of the former imperial family of Brazil was revoked in 1920, Louis-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance is born in France, where its family is installed. During the Second world war, his/her parents on several occasions try to leave Europe to join the new world but the danger which represents the crossing of the Atlantic and the difficulty in finding a ship neutral agreeing to face the underwater war prevents some.

It should be said that Orleans-Bragance have many reasons to want to flee the Nazis. Initially because Brazil, victim of torpedoings organized against its commercial navy by the Third Reich, threat to declare the war in Germany and that the “heirs to the throne” could thus be used hostages for Hitler. Then and especially because the maternal family of Louis-Gaston is resolutely opposed to the Führer and that this one was never shown to tend with respect to the dynasties which were opposite for him.

Fortunately, the family crosses finally the unscathed war and Louis-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance discovers Brazil in 1945. The prince makes initially his studies in catholic institutions, like the college Jesuit Saint-Ignace ( Santo Inácio ) of Rio de Janeiro, then share then for Paris, in order to improve his knowledge of French and other foreign languages (German, that he usually speaks, and the Castilian, Italian and English, which he includes/understands). As from 1962, it follows courses of chemistry to the University of Munich, where it diploma in 1967.

Since the death of his father, Louis-Gaston of Orleans-Bragance regularly visits the main cities of his country and takes part in many cultural and social events with his brothers, Bertrand of Orleans-Bragance and Antoine of Orleans-Bragance.

Dom Louis Gaston and its brother dom Bertrand thus lead the countryside in favor of the monarchical restoration, at the time of the referendum of April 21st, 1993. Unfortunately for Orleans-Bragance, the result of the referendum is a failure for the monarchists. It remains that the votes in favor of the restoration are surprisingly numerous since 12% of the 67.010.409 voters were declared in favor of the return of the imperial mode.
