It entered to the service at 16 years the 75 {{E}} Régiment; he was quartermaster-sergeant in 1791 and lieutenant with the same body in 1792. He made the campaigns of Italy with distinction, and when Napoleon Bonaparte took in year IV the command of the army, the soldier of the 75e was already Brigadier general. It ordered the camp established under Lyon, and organized the half-brigades passing of the the Vendée in Italy. Under the Empire, it made the campaigns of Austria, Prussia and Poland. In 1808 it passed to the Armée with Spain as chief of staff of the 7e body. It was distinguished with the seat from Barcelona and Saragossa; but its more beautiful feat of arms was the defense of Saint-Sebastien in 1813, defense which was worth the admiration of the French to him, and even that of the English and the Spaniards. It is in consequence of this beautiful resistance that the Emperor entrusted to him in 1815 the government of the place of Valencian, on which one knew that were to go the efforts of the allies. It is with its firmness, its presence of mind and its experiment, which one must have, with the weak means of defense placed at its disposal, pushed back the efforts of the united troops which wanted to occupy this city. This vigorous resistance preserved this city at France. The Rey general was put at the retirement after this great service rendered to his country.
