Biography
Louis Delluc was born with Cadouin (the Dordogne) in 1890.Its family settles in Paris in 1903.
After traditional studies it moves towards journalism. He writes much: criticisms of spectacles, poems, novels. He is very critical towards the cinema of the time: films of art, current events, films light.
During the war, he marries Eve Francis, MUSE and interprets Paul Claudel: she makes him discover the American cinema.
As from 1917, Louis Delluc launches out in cinematographic criticism, written very many articles and notes, invents the word Cinéaste.
With his friend of childhood Leon Moussinac, it was one among the first independent theorists and critics in France.
In five years it will show an overflowing activity to publish the Newspaper of the Film club , Cinéa , to create the Ciné-club S and especially to carry out seven films, of which two marked the history of the French cinema: the Woman of nowhere and Fever .
It uses the natural decoration, removes the gesticulations and the adventures.
He is the initiator of the avant-garde which will mark the cinema of the the Twenties, until speaking (Abel Gance, Germaine Dulac, Marcel the Herbarium, Jean Epstein, Rene Clair).
In 1924, it makes its last film, the Flood , in the valley of the Rhone. Under very bad climatic conditions, Louis Delluc contracts a terrible pneumonia there. He dies in thirty-three years in a few weeks.
