Louis Bréa

Louis (Ludovic) Bréa is a painter niçois born towards 1450 with Nice and deceased in Nice towards 1523.

It is the first to leave the traditional codes of the Gothic to make enter, by its influence, all the area in the way of the Renaissance. One owes him primarily of monumental religious works (Fresque S, Retable S, Polyptyque S) introducing an astonishing smoothness in the details and founders of a style and a school. There enjoyed sound living of a great reputation and remains a reference impossible to circumvent in the Religious art of 15th and 16th centuries. Its first preserved work, the Pietà , was completed on June 25th, 1475. One can admire it with the monastery Franciscain of Cimiez (Nice) which shelters also the Cruxifiction and the Deposition . Its notoriety growing, it works in 1490 for the future pope Jules II.

Credit of 1475 to 1516, one finds his works with Nice, Lieuche, Taggia (Italy), Monaco, Savone (Italy), Genoa (Italy), Beuil, Montalto (Italy).
