Louis-Marie Stanislas Fréron

Louis-Marie-Stanislas Fréron , born with Paris the August 17th 1754 and died in the Cayes, Santo Domingo, the July 15th 1802, is a French publicity agent.

Wire of Élie Fréron, the owner of the literary Year (which was the target of epigrams of Voltaire), nephew of the abbot Royou, comrade of Camille Desmoulins (with whom he attended the Palais Royal) and of Maximilien Robespierre with the Louis-the-Large Collège, he enjoyed a considerable fortune at the beginning of the Révolution. It occupied a time the direction of the paternal sheet.

In 1790, it founds the Speaker of the People , body of diffusion of many articles of Jean-Paul Marat, and abusive attacks against Marie-Antoinette. The July 4th of the same year, it joined Desmoulins with the drafting of the Révolutions of France and the Brabant .

One of the authors of the petition of the Cordeliers deposited with the Field-of-March, it is stopped the July 20th, three days after the massacre of the petitioners by the men of Fayette and Bailly.

The August 10th 1792, it takes part in the attack of the Tuileries. In articles avengers, it calls the population with summary executions of prisoners, thus playing a part in the Massacres of September. Elected official with the Convention, it leaves on mission “pacificatory” in the South. It is there that it acquires the title of “Missionary of Terror”.

Enemy of Robespierre, which followed with dislike its bloody intrigues and had made it point out in May 1794, it plots against him and takes share with the Thermidor 9.

Excluded from the Club of the Jacobins on September 3rd, 1794 with Tallien and Lecointre, at the request of Carrier, it makes reappear, starting from September 11th, the Speaker of the People , of which it makes the body of the propaganda reactionary and where it shows a virulent antijacobinism. After the Coup d'etat of the 18 brumaire, he becomes the lover of Pauline Bonaparte. Ruined, he hopes to make use of it near the First consul, but he obtains only one post of administrator of the old people's homes, of which he is revoked soon. To get rid of him, Pauline, the fact of naming sub-prefect with Santo Domingo, where he dies of the Yellow fever two months after his arrival.
