Louis-Jacques-Maurice de Bonald

Louis-Jacques-Maurice de Bonald (born the October 30th 1787 with Millau, Aveyron - died the February 25th 1870 with Lyon), was a man of the church French, archbishop of Lyon of 1839 with 1870. It was one of the most enthusiastic defenders of the Ultramontanisme against the old man Gallicanisme French.

Louis-Jacques-Maurice de Bonald was wire of the writer Louis-Gabriel de Bonald (1754 - 1840), author of the primitive Législation , and Elisabeth de Guibal de Combescure.
Of return of the emigration after the 18 fructidor, it is placed in a pension in Lyon. Its finished studies, it enters to the Saint-Sulpice seminar where it is noticed for his burning piety. Once ordered priest, he is noticed by the archbishop of Besancon, M {{gr.}} Cortois de Pressigny, which takes it as secretary in a mission difficult and delicate which had as an aim the conclusion of the Concordat, and took it along to Rome with him.

- 1817 - vicar-general and Archdeacon of Monseigneur De Latil, bishop of Chartres.
- 1823 - Bishop of the Puy (évêché lately restored by royal decree). He showed from now on a dedicated defender of the rights of the Church.
- December 4th 1839 - archbishop of Lyon, Primacy of Gaules.
- 1841 - Cardinal, receives the hat of the hands of the Pope on May 22nd, 1843, with the title of the Très Holy Trinity.
- 1844 - Condemns the Manuel of ecclesiastical right , work of Mr. elder Dupuis, public prosecutor at the Court of appeal, estimating that this work contains “doctrines suitable to ruin true freedoms of the Church to put at their place ashamed constraints…”
- 1848 - One of the first to greet the revolution of 1848, of which the currency Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité appears favorable to him to the interests of the Church.

- It was high the January 26th 1852 with the distinction of senator of the Empire.
