Louis-Honore Fréchette
Louis-Honore Fréchette (November 16th 1839 - May 31st 1908), poet, playwright, and writer, born with Point-Levy (Lévis), Quebec, Canada.
Biography
Although his/her father, contractor, are illiterate, he studies under the supervision of the Frères of the Christian schools. From 1854 to 1860, it makes its traditional studies with the Séminaire of Quebec, with the College of Holy-Anne-of-the-Pocatière then with the seminar of Nicolet. Already in this time, he writes poems with its first collection My leisures in 1863 and of dramatic of which Felix Poutré (1862). Later, he studies the right to the Université Laval.
In 1849, at the 10 years age, it was pilot exhumation of the cage of Marie-Josephte Corriveau (Corriveau) discovered by chance in a pit of the cemetery of St-Joseph-of-the-Point-Levy, at the side of the church St-Joseph (Lauzon sector in Lévis).
In 1864, it opens a law firm, after several unfruitful tests to be made engage, in Lévis, city where it founds also two newspapers: the flag of Lévis and the Platform of Lévis .
It is exiled with Chicago where it will reside of 1866 at 1871 and written the voice of one exiled . A certain number of plays which he wrote during this period were lost at the time of the Grand fire of Chicago of 1871. During this exile, it is made employ in Illinois Central Railway.
In 1874, shortly after its return to Quebec, it is elected appointed of Lévis to the Parlement of Ottawa. He is not re-elected with the election of 1878. In 1876, it Marie with a rich woman and turns over to the writing to Montreal grace also to a heritage bequeathed by his/her aunt. In Montreal, it publishes its second collection of poetry Shovel-mixes (1877).
It is the first Inhabitant of Quebec to gain the Prix Montyon of the French Academy in 1880 for its collection of poems entitled the boreal Flowers .
Its native house was converted into House of Art and it is located at 4385, rue Saint-Laurent with Lévis.
