Louis-Furcy Grognier, mayor of Aurillac, chairs Chantillian Société was born in 1787 with Aurillac, of the second marriage into 1785 of Antoine Grognier, first usher with the court of Aurillac, and Suzanne Combe.
Married with Julie Magne, it is deceased in 1863 with Aurillac after having made an important legacy at the municipal hospital and the city, as well as a library of 4000 volumes.

Biography

Lawyer, then temporary judge, Louis-Furcy Grognier should not be confused with his half-brother Louis Furcy Grognier who was the first veterinary principal of Lyon. Like him, it was the organizer of learned societies, in particular the Chantillian Société which took part in mouvent general, initiated by the Société of the Antique dealers of France, in order to write in each department a statistical dictionary, political and historique.

It launched launched the public subscription of 40.000 francs to make carry out by the sculptor David of Angers a statue of Gerbert d' Aurillac. The artist had given his face to the noble man who is represented on one of the low-reliefs, the other having represented that of Doctor Civiales.

He made repurchase by the commune of Aurillac the Château Saint-Etienne of which he undertakes the restauration.

He also undertook to restore the vault of Aurenque, to make of it a memorial of an attack pushed back by the city in XVIe siècle.

Conscious of the difficulty that had the rural communes to recruit of the Masters for their schools, it creates an training institute of the Masters whom it entrusts to the Frères Christian schools and whom it installs with the Saint-Etienne castle.

Admiror of Frederic Ozanam which he knew, he supported the creation of a congregation of Sisters of Saint-Vincent-of-Paule, in order to exempt free care with the poor families.
