Louis-Albert Vachon
Louis-Albert Vachon (Saint-Frederic-with-Beauce, February 4th, 1912 - Quebec, September 29th, 2006) was the highly skilled archbishop of Quebec and a cardinal of the Catholic church.
Biography
In Quebec, he studied in faculties of philosophy and catholic theology and received the June 11th 1938 the sacrament of ordination by the cardinal Jean-Marie-Rodrigue Villeneuve. After having obtained a doctorate in philosophy of the University Laval in 1947, it becomes in 1949 Doctor of Divinity of Angelicum of Rome. Of return to the Canada, he is professor at the Laval University, initially in philosophy then in theology until 1955. He occupies there the task of vice-rector in 1959 then of vice-chancellor of 1960 to 1972. He is also higher Grand Seminar of Quebec. In 1960, it is made general vicar and in 1977, titular bishop of Mesarfelta and auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Quebec by Paul VI.In 1981, he becomes archbishop of Quebec and primacy of the Canadian Church. Jean-Paul II, which was accommodated by him at the time of its visit in Canada in 1984, names it with the Collège of the cardinals in 1985. The Vachon cardinal had pointed out himself to have required that the visit of the pope start with the town of Quebec, seat primatial of the Canadian Church, rather than with Ottawa, like wanted it the Canadian diplomacy.
In 1987, it revokes the statute of pious association of the Armée with Marie and its sectarian character reproaches him, with the support of Joseph Ratzinger, prefect of the Congregation for the doctrines of the faith. He was highly skilled archbishop of 1990 until September 29th, 2006, the day of his death.
