Lough Mask
The Lough Mask (in Irish: Loch Measca ) is a calcareous lake of 89 km ² (: 22000 acres) of the County of Mayo, in Ireland, which is located at the west of the island
Lough Mask is near the Lough Corrib, which flows in the Corrib, a river which crosses Galway, and finishes in the Baie of Galway.
Lough Mask is between Lough Corrib, in the south, and the Lough Carra, in the North-East.
A partially underground river, the Cong river, connects Lough Corrib to Lough Mask. In the middle of the 19th century, work was undertaken to dig a navigable channel between these two lakes. Unfortunately, the porous nature of the calcareous ground dedicated this attempt with the failure.
The lake is famous for fishing with the Truite.
Famous character
On bank is of Lough Mask lived Charles Cunningham Boycott (1832-1897). It managed its grounds with such an amount of roughness and firmness which the agricultural league leagued to make a blockade of its exploitations. The name of the former British captain thus remained celebrates, being the target of the first Boycott of the history.
