Convey of Formula 1 of transition conceived for the season 1966. In 1966, the authorized cubic capacity was of 3000 cm ³ against 1500 cm ³ of 1962 to 1965. Lotus was not really ready for this season and the very complicated engine BRM H16 had so much breakages which only one victory in race was gained by Jim Clark while waiting for the news Lotus 49.
