Lotto
traditional Lotto
The lotto is a Board game based on the chance. A leader of play draws with the fate a ball or a token on which N° is registered (generally from 1 to 90). So that the choice is truly Aléatoire, the tokens are hidden in an opaque bag and the leader of play draws there without looking after having " boulégué" (mixed) with its hand. As soon as it drew N°, the leader of play announces with clear and audible voice of all, the value read on the token.
The players received - or bought - at the beginning of part one or more paperboards. On each paperboard a grid is reproduced comprising three lines and nine columns. Among the cells which result from it, four, in each line, are empty whereas five comprise a number. It is to say that each paperboard posts 15 numbers.
Each player, with the advertisement of N° drawn by the leader from play, checks if one of its paperboards comprises drawn N°. If so, it puts a sign on the corresponding box. This material sign can be a broad bean, a dry haricot bean a corn grain or an object envisaged for this purpose. Currently, this object can be magnetized and be let fix at the " carton" become metal.
One proceeds then to a new pulling and so on until one of the participants gained.
If a whole line (five boxes) is filled one says that there is " quine" ; if the three lines of a paperboard are full, it is said that there is " paperboard plein". According to the rules of play defined at the beginning of part, that which carries out the first a quine, a double quine (two lines) or a full paperboard is gaining of a more or less important batch which is traditionally " in kind " and can sometimes be very important: for example a pig, a herd of sheep, etc… The lotto can be played within the framework of an small group (family or friendly). Many associations annually organize (often towards the civil end of the year) of the traditional lottos in order to obtain receipts for the realization of their projects.
The people who devote themselves to the games of chance and of money (English gambling) can develop a strong dependence with those. One names this psychopathology (or addiction) the pathological Jeu.

In France
In France, it is the Frenchwoman of the plays who has the monopoly of the games of chance and forecasts (except for those on the horse-races) thus that of the lotto. It organizes a lotto, twice by week.It is a question for the players of choosing 6 distinct numbers among 49 suggested. However the pulling of the lotto is carried out in a successive way, indeed for the choice of the first ball, there are 49 possibilities. Then for the second ball, it does not remain any more that 48 possibilities etc, to the sixth ball. The order in which the balls are drawn not having importance it exists 6! that is to say 1 X 2 X 3 X 4 X 5 X 6 = 720 various manners of obtaining same pulling since there are 6 possibilities to place the first ball then 5 for the second etc… The number of different pullings is thus , that is to say
(49 X 48 X 47 X 46 X 45 X 44)/(1 X 2 X 3 X 4 X 5 X 6) that is to say: 13983816, is approximately a chance on 14 million.
An average human life lasting for its part approximately thirty thousand days, the probability of gaining the first prize is largely lower than that to die before the date of pulling. (either a chance on 816 by playing 4 pullings per week all its life!)
History of the Lotto of the Frenchwoman of the Plays
The Lotto, national play, were born in France in 1975 from a Décret signed by Jacques Chirac. the first pulling will take place as a public with the Empire with Paris Wednesday May 19th 1976, 73680 bulletins only had been recorded for a total of 50,600 francs. It is organized by the Frenchwoman of the Plays (in the past national Loterie then Loto national), a state monopoly, which carried out a turnover of 1,48 billion euros in 2005. half (50,5%) is redistributed with the players and the remainder finances mainly the national center for the development of the sport (CNDS, which builds swimming pools and stages). At the beginning, only the Paris region had sales outlets (1 000 in 1976). During the summer 1977, the whole of the territory is gradually covered. Then with the beginning of the year 1978, it is possible to buy bulletins in the overseas departments.
Commercially, the beginnings are poor. Launched on a date too close to the summer holidays, it does not enter immediately the practices of the French. To that the bad luck is added. Indeed, nobody gains the " large lot" corresponding to the six right numbers.
In September 1976 a gaining first done the one of the press. The following week, the number of bulletins goes up abruptly to 250.000. One month after, a million bulletin is sold then the sales increase by a million per month until May 1977 where one records the record of 7 million bulletins per week, one year after launching!
In France, Maurice Caradet, then President of the Company of the National Lottery and National Lotto, will entrust since 1980 the production of all televised pullings of the Company which it directs to Gilbert Richard, ex-producer of many television programs for youth. Under its responsibility, between 1980 and 1992, several organizers of the Lotto had the responsibility of present the numbers gaining to the televiewers: let us quote amongst other things, Annie Poirel, Jean-Marc Laurent, Evelyne Biazzi, Daniel Richard. Thereafter, Valerie Payet and David Martin took the changing.
The turnover of the lotto is redistributed with gaining for 50,5% (tax-free), at the company the Frenchwoman of the plays for 12%, and in the State for 37,5%. A small fraction of CA is also allotted to the broken Gueules, an association born after the First World War, shareholder historical of the national Lottery.
