Lotto-Quebec

Lotto-Quebec , is a company of State of the Quebec. It has the role of exploiting in the order and the measurement of the games of chance and money in Quebec. The Company was created in 1969 in order to establish a public Loterie. Since, its shareholder, the Québécois government, entrusted new mandates to him which brought it, with the passing of years, to diversify his activities.

Description

Lotto-Quebec offers various types of games of chance and money.

By a network of more than 9.800 retailers, it offers several types of products of Loterie:

  • of instantaneous (called gratteux ) the

  • with direct access (or by final ) like the Lotto 6/49 , the Super 7 or the Quebec 49 )
  • and of the sporting Bet

Lotto-Quebec is divided into several subsidiary companies to manage its activities:

  • the Company of the video lotteries of Quebec, which manages a network of more than 13  000 apparatuses of video lottery (called video poker ) which are found in bars and breweries.

  • the Company of the bingos of Quebec, which exploits a network of Bingo where all the benefit are distributed to the titular non-profit making organizations of a license of bingo.

  • Ingenio, which develops games of chance based on technologies multimedia and the Internet

  • the Company of the living rooms of plays of Quebec, which with the responsibility for the exploitation of the future living rooms of plays which will be established with Quebec, with Three-Rivers, Mount-Trembling and on the northern crown of Montreal.

  • Mundial Casino, which offers on the international market of the products and the services developed in the fields of its competence.

Lotto-Quebec employs more 7  000 people (at March 31st 2006), of which close to 6  000 in the three casinos which it manages.

The Company has a programme of acquisition of works of art contemporary gathered in the Lotto-Quebec Collection. The Collection joins together more than 3.500 works of some 900 Québécois artists.

Note: The management of the plays of bingo on the Amerindian reserves does not concern its competences, but well the Gouvernement of Canada.

History

In 1969, by the approval of the Company law of the lotteries of Quebec, the Gouvernement of Quebec creates a company of State intended to legalize and exploit the Game of chance in Quebec. The first pulling organized by the new business of State takes place on March 14th 1970, the first prize of Inter Loto is then of 125  000$. The cost of the setting is of 2$.

At that time, no law specifies which stage of government is responsible for the exploitation of the games of chance and money. For this reason, the government of Canada creates, in 1972, a lottery in order to finance the Olympic Games of summer of 1976. This organization will take the name of Lotto-Canada in 1976. However, following strong pressures on behalf of the provinces, this company is dissolved in 1979 and the management and the exploitation of the games of chance become a provincial competence. The provinces must however transfer a share from their profits at the federal government. In 2006, this share reaches 14.1 million dollars.

It is into 1976 that Lotto-Quebec carries out the first pulling of a first prize of 1 million dollars of its history, under the name of Super Loto.

June 12th 1982, Lotto 6/49 becomes the first pulling to be been done through the Canada. The first prize is then of 500  000$.

Of modest, this company became with the passing of years one of most important of this sector to the Canada.

June 22nd 2005, in partnership with the Circus of the Sun, it proposes to relocate the Casino of Montreal close to the Old man-Port of Montreal with an aim of integrating it in a complex of entertainment of international gauge including/understanding inter alia, a hotel and a theater. This project created a polemic on the place of the Game of chance in Quebec. The March 10th 2006, following the withdrawal of the Circus of the Sun, Lotto-Quebec decided to give up the project of relocalization of the casino.

March 30th 2006, by the means of its subsidiary company Casino Mundial, it becomes officially partner of the French group Moliflor Loisirs. It holds 35% of the shareholding. The two other partners are Bridgepoint Capital (55%) and the leadership team of the group Moliflor Leisures (10%). This company is the more important third exploiting casino S in France with 21 establishments.

November 2nd 2006, the Council of Ministers (Government of Quebec) authorized Lotto-Quebec to establish four living rooms of plays in Quebec: Montreal, Quebec, Three-Rivers and Mount-Trembling. With this authorization, Lotto-Quebec reached a new stage in the execution of a development plan announced in 2004. This plan envisages, in particular, the reduction of the number of apparatuses of video lottery to reduce accessibility of it.
