Lothar von Richthofen

Lothar-Siegfried Freiherr von Richthofen (born the September 27th 1894 with Breslau (today Wrocław in Poland) - died the July 4th 1922) was a German Fighter pilot during the First World War.

Biography

Lothar von Richthofen was the younger brother of most famous German fighter pilots of the First World War, Manfred von Richthofen, the “Baron Rouge”.

When the war burst, Lothar von Richthofen was at the school of war of Danzig (today Gdańsk). It entered the conflict within its regiment, the 4th regiment of dragons “von Bredow”.

On a proposal from his/her brother, Lothar von Richthofen was made transfer in the air force in 1915, and received the training of pilot. After having spent some time in a flotilla of bombardment, it entered the fighter squadron Jasta 11 of his older brother in March 1917.

Until the end of the war, it obtained 40 air victories, and passed to be one of the most effective fighter pilots of the First World War, more effective still than his famous brother, taking into consideration number of victories per mission.

He died in 1922, with the orders of an airliner which was to connect Berlin to Hamburg, and which was crushed. It is buried in the cemetery of garrison of Schweidnitz (today Świdnica), in Poland.
