Lorraine heart of steel

Lorraine heart of steel is a radio which was founded in March 1979 by the CGT in the town of Longwy to fight against the factory shutdowns in the iron and steel medium. Animated by the journalists Marcel Trillat and Jacques Dupont, the radio diffuses a few hours per day, illegally, starting from the town hall of Longwy-High, the transmitter being placed on the top of the bell-tower of the close church. With each attempt at evacuation by CRS, one sounds there the alarm bell and from the thousands of people come to protect the radio.

At the summer 1980, the new leaders of the CGT évincent the two journalists and the radio becomes the voice of its Master. The radio does not interest anybody any more and ends up being evacuated by CRS at the beginning of 1981.

The characteristic of this radio lay in its opening: the word was not reserved that with the Syndicat S. Whoever wanted to intervene could it. The door of the " studio" was opened with all: Working S, Militant S or left sympathizers like line (except extreme-right-hand side), inhabitants, Communist with the religious . It was a radio truly free and founded on solidarity. Testimonys exist, a book in addition described this fight (" Lorraine heart of acier" ?), as well as a film (“a radio in the city” of Alban Pear tree and Jean Greenhouses).

In the red work Of Anger , Guy-Joseph Feller affirms that “Lorraine Steel Heart remains one of the most considerable events of the social struggles of Longwy (with Flames of the Hope or the first tele pirate, S.O.S Employment of CFDT) in 1978/1979 at the time of the crisis of the consecutive iron and steel industry to the first Plan steel (Raymond Barre, Prime Minister). It will have made it possible many people to speak and to say their lives, to also gather around a federator and fraternal project.”

LCA will accommodate also many policies like Georges Marchais, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Alain Krivine, Francoise Giroud, Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, etc LCA diffused also poetry, music (of the jazz) and stories of lives.
