Lorraine James Smith

Lorraine James Smith (1862 - 1931)

Wire of Pasteur Anglican, it born in 1862 in Dumfriesshire. He first of all studied at the university of Edinburgh the Art S, then the Médecine in 1889. It continued its research with Strasbourg then Copenhagen. He teaches then in Queen' S College of Belfast and becomes professor in 1901.

It is there that with John Scott Haldane it undertakes then research in Physiologie on the breathing, the transport capacity of the Oxygène by the Sang, etc

He was elected with the Royal Society in 1909.

In 1897, it studied the Inflammation air cells under strong a Pression partial of Oxygène. This intoxication is called from now on “effect Lorrain Smith”. One speaks about it on the page treating about the Hyperoxie.
