Loridae
The loridés ( Loridae ), or lorisidés ( Lorisidae ), are a family of Primate S Strepsirrhiniens. They gather Loris, the Potto S and the Angwantibo S. These Mammifères of Africa and Asia are of small size. The muzzle is short, the eyes are large, the ears are rather long, the members are fine, the tail is short or absent. They live in the trees while moving slowly, without jumping of branch in branch.
The loris have a fur dense but short, generally gray or brown, darker on the back. The eyes large and are directed towards the front one. The ears small and are often partially hidden by the fur. The inches are opposable and the index is short. The second toe of the legs postpones door a fine claw for toiletter, characteristic of the Strepsirrhiniens. They can reach 17 to 40 cm and 0,3 to 2 kg at the adulthood according to the species.
They are animals Diurne S and Arboricole S. Contrairement to their close relations cousins Galago S, their movements slow, are controlled and they never jump. Thanks to their strong hands, they are clutched with the branches and can be about it taken down only with force. The majority of the loris live as a recluse or family small groups.
The food mode of the majority of the loris consists of Insecte S, but they also consume eggs of Oiseau, small Vertébré S, but also of the fruits and Sève. The loris prefers however the harmful insects or which release an unpleasant odor, dissuasive for another species as well as the ants Pseudomyrmex (whose puncture can paralyze the arm of a man). This last then washes the head, the hands and the feet with its urine, to alleviate the punctures of its toxic meals.
The period of hard gestation of the loris between 4 and 6 months, and lead to the birth of one or two babies. They are often clutched one with the other on the belly of the mother or they wait in the nests while the mother leaves in search food. After one period from 3 to 9 months - according to the species - place has weaning. They become completely adult between 10 and 18 months. Their lifespan can reach 20 years.
The loris are captured and kept like pets and are driven out for concocter of the traditional remedies (almost all the parts of their body would be equipped with a magic capacity). With in more the lines with high voltage which electrocute them (while trying to pass from tree out of tree), the road accidents and the cats domestic, the loris test difficulties of surviving in the world of today.
