Lori with purple belly

The Lori with purple belly ( Lorius hypoinochrous ) is a psittacidé of the subfamily of the loriinés .

Description

This bird resembles the tricolor Lori much, in particular with the subspecies somu . It is however smaller (26 cm instead of 31).

It presents a plumage to dominant red with the face and the cap black blue. This color is melted with the red on the level of the belly.

Subspecies

Lori with purple belly is represented by three very close subspecies:

  • Lorius hypoinochrous devittatus Hartert, 1898;
  • Lorius hypoinochrous hypoinochrous G.R. Gray, 1859;
  • Lorius hypoinochrous rosselianus Rothschild & Hartert, 1918.

Habitat

Lori with purple belly populates the primary forests.

Distribution

This bird lives in the Archipel Bismarck in the south-east of the New Guinea.
