Lori ultramarin

The Lori ultramarin ( Vini ultramarina ) is a Psittacidae group of the Loriinae, near to the blue Lori of Tahiti.

Description

Lori ultramarin is distinguished from blue Lori of Tahiti by coloring turquoise blue (instead of mauve blue) of the face, the wings, the back and the tail, and white with scales mauve blue (instead of pure white) of the cheeks, the throat and the chest. This bird also presents white marks on the hips.

Distribution

This species populates nothing any more but two islands of the archipelago of the Marchionesses in French Polynésie. It was exterminated on the other islands.
