Lori of the Fiji
The Lori of the Fiji is a bird of Psittacidae . He saw in a restricted surface of the wet Tropical forest and coastal cocoteraies of the islands Fiji. This bird is sensitive to deforestation and in serious decline because of the captures.
Description
Lori of the Fiji measures approximately 20 cm. It presents a plumage to dominant green for the upper parts and red for lower.A light sexual dimorphism exists: the male has the face, the cap and part of the nape of the neck purple and the female purple more clearly.
The bottom of the nape of the neck, the sides of the neck and the wings are green. The remainder of the neck, the cheeks, the throat, the chest and the belly are bright red. A ventral band violet contrasts clearly with the green of the lower part of the tail. The nozzle is orange. The irises are brown red and the pink legs.
Food
This bird has a preference very marked for the flowers of the coconuts.
Reproduction
This bird builds its nest in the hollow of a nest.
