Lori fringillaire
The Lori fringillaire ( Vini australis ) is a Psittacidae group of the Loriinae which lives on the tropical islands of the Pacific.
Description
Lori fringillaire measurement approximately 19 cm. Its plumage, more clearly to the level of the back and tail, presents dominant green. Its cap is blue fluorescent azure and its red throat. Its belly raises a red and purple drill plate. This last coloring is found on the level of the thighs.
Distribution
This species populates the littoral forests of the islands of the central Polynésie, of Samoa, the Tonga, the archipelagoes of the Fiji and Lau.
Behavior
Lori fringillaire lives in groups moving in fast and direct flight of an island to another in the search of trees in flowers.
Food
This bird consumes mainly the flowers of the coconuts, the Erythrina and the Hibiscus . It is also nourished in period of fruit reproduction, of adult and larval insects.
Reproduction
Lori fringillaire builds its nest in anfractuosities of the trees.
Statute of conservation
Although he is not threatened of extinction, Lori fringillaire is currently very rare whereas he was common in 1952 to Samoa.
Captivity
The cases of reproduction of this species in captivity are very rare. Also, the possibilities of reinforcement of the natural populations starting from stocks of breeding are not currently possible.
