Lorenzo da Ponte

Lorenzo da Ponte (born Emmanuele Conegliano in Ceneda, close to Venice, the March 10th 1749 and died with New York, the August 17th 1838) was Librettiste with the Opéra of Vienna.

He wrote booklets for many type-setters of which Martín there Soler, but he is especially famous for his collaboration with Mozart for three of his more famous operas: the Marriages of Figaro , Così fan tutte and Don Giovanni .

He lived a time with London, teaching the Italian and writing booklets for an Italian company of opera, then emigrated in New York in 1805, where he tried to earn his living in the trade of the tobacco.

Thereafter, he became professor of Italian language and literature to the university of Columbia. In 1833, it raised funds for the creation of an Italian opera to New York, from which it organized in particular first American Don Giovanni. Once established in America, he wrote at 81 years his Mémoires in which he tells, by enjolivant it and giving the beautiful role, its adventurous life.
