- the history of Lorentzen is closely related to that of the castle. Built at the beginning of the 14th century in the form of Wasserburg by the count Frederic II of Saarwerden, the castle is given partly in guarantee to the archbishop of Truces for economic reasons. In 1527, it passes to the Nassau Saarebrucken by the marriage between Catherine de Saarwerden and Johan Ludwig de Nassau Saarbrucken. Following financial problems, it is held in lease during more than 100 years by the family Steyss von Gornetz. At the end of the 18th century, it is taken again by the family of Nassau Saarbrucken which makes of it the castle dowager until the revolution. It is sold like national good in 1793 and is converted into farm. It belongs today to 8 different owners who share 9 parts of the castle. In 2007, part of the castle will be occupied by a C.I.N.E. (Center of Initiative to Nature and the Environment).
