Lord Newson
Lord Newson , born in 1956 in Australia, is a Danseur and Australian Chorégraphe contemporary.
Biography
Lord Newson, after a training of psychologist, obtains a purse to come to study in England with the London Contemporary Dance School at the end of the years 1970. He becomes dancer and choreographer of Extemporary Dance Theater of 1981 to 1985, where he tries to mix the ballet dancing and modern with choreographers varied such as Karole Armitage, Michael Clark, David Gordon, Daniel Larrieu and daN Wagoner. A little depressed by the vacuum in dance in England in the middle of the years 1980, it decides into 1986 to found its company (even if it does not wish to use the term of “company”) called DV8 Physical Theater. The name of the company refers to Dance and Video 8 (super 8 mm), and exploits the English deviate , meaning deviating or perverse word.In direct collaboration with its dancers, he works on video parts combining it and the Contemporary dance by exploring the social questions, discriminations and the marginal ones (one can quote the incredible performances of real dancer of David Toole, who is legless cripple). The style of the company reflects the rejection of Newson for the abstracted dance, and often sticks to create strong images.
