Lonza group () is a company active Suisse in the Chemical industry.

History

Founded in 1897 with Gampel in Were worth, the companies settles finally with Viège in 1909. In 1973 Lonza is absorbed by Alusuisse what will have as a consequence the birth in 1990 of the Holding Alusuisse-Lonza Group which will become Algroup in 1998. Following the proposal for a fusion to three between Alcan Algroup and Pechiney (which will be finally refused by the commission of competition), the Board of directors of Algroup proposes on August 11th, 1999, the separation of the chemistry activities and energy (Lonza) of that of the aluminum activities and packing (Alusuisse). October 18th, 1999 the Extraordinary general assembly of algroup approves separation what leads to the birth of Lonza Group. The new business will enter out of purse the same year.
