Longuyon

Longuyon is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.

Geography

Longuyon is located at the confluence of the Chiers and the Crusnes to 18 km of Longwy.

History

  • This commune owes its name with a " length gué" who allowed to cross Chiers at the time Roman.

  • the first mention of its name goes back to 634. It was there already a vault, dedicated to Co.-Agathe, who was transformed into collegial in 1120.

  • the castle of Mussy, mentioned since 1144, was shaven in 1670 on order of Louis XIV.

  • Longuyon which counted 2300 inhabitants in 1914 was devastated August 23rd and 24th of the same year.
