History

General history

The name of the town of LONGPERRIER can find its origin in Latin. It means either “long stone” of Latin longa will petra, or “long pear tree” of Latin longa pirus. The church founded by the tales of Dammartin in Goële about the year 1185 is called the church Holy-Madeleine de Longperrier. The territory longperrois is divided into several fields. The names of these fields are currently carried by the principal streets of Longperrier. The chief town appears to be the field of Maincourt, had by the lords of Chambly (Oise) at the beginning of XIVe century. In 1666, Louis II of Bourbon, Prince de Condé, become purchaser to make exchange at once with the abbey of Chaâlis (Oise) against the ponds of Commelles close to Chantilly. January 7th, 1791, the field of Maincourt is acquired by the deputy Louis Michel the Furrier of Saint-Fargeau. After the death of this last, the field is sold with the Revenaz family. The field of the fish pond, property of the tale of Dammartin then of the family of Maine and of Mister de Vassan, is sold into 1772 to the Collinet brothers. The whole of the farms is gradually acquired by the Holy-Beuve family. The grounds located in the north of the village, of not very fertile grounds, meadows, vines and orchards, are exploited by small holders. With the beginning of the year sixty, the agricultural activities cease gradually. Dwelling houses are installed on grounds acquired by inhabitants of the Paris region. The program of urbanization, during second half of the XX E century, made it possible to quadruple the population.

Longperrier and his kings

Kings de Longperrier drew the bird from 1893 to 1933! It is into 1893 that Longperrier had its first King, King Alphonse LEBOEUF. The register of the Company of the Knights of the Arc of Longperrier was found in the files of the town hall. This register allowed the recording of the receptions of the acts of pulling of the bird. With his reading one can deduce that the applicant was to be of apostolic and Roman Catholic religion, from good life and manners, and have attended the garden of the Company from it a reasonable time. Consequently it was to lend oath to conform to the statutes and payment of the Company, to discharge contributions, which at the time rose with 10 Francs of import duty and 5 F of annual contribution, in order to contribute at the expenses of play. He becomes member of the Brotherhood of Saint Sebastien their patron saint. Then it could be received Chevalier and could then draw the bird. The title of King was conferred to the first knight who had reached the target: the bird. One can suppose that it was a fictitious bird planted on a pole and who was to be drawn with " arc in the garden of the brotherhood. The new King was then elected for one year, he promised to make his duty and committed himself returning the bird at the end of the year in the accustomed manner. During this year of reign he enjoyed dignities prerogatives to the Royalty. The first knights who drew the bird are: Leduc Honore, Thuillier captain, Loriette Leon, Louis Dressmaker, Loriette Torment, Dumont, Dressmaker clerk, Leduc Edourd, Bontemps, Besnard Jules, Left-handed Adolphe, Cottard Alphonse, Landru Jean, Emile Pigeon, Pasquier Adolphe, Pasquier Angel, Loriette Paul, Loriette Wire, Cottard Jules, Thuillier Frederic, Leboeuf Alphonse, Pasquier Leboeuf, Michel Victor. There was no pulling in 1910, nor of 1912 to 1920. December 17th, 1921 the company was reconstituted under the impulse of three former knights: Lemaître Ernest, Thuillier Frederic and Gaucher Adolphe. Thereafter had presentation place of the new candidates who were well quickly named Chevalier, the Company then was completely reconstituted with a Captain: Lemaître Ernest, a Lieutenant: Thuillier Frederic, a secretary treasurer: Marie Charles and his door flag: Philibert Leon. The new King was named on May 7th, 1922 following the pulling of the bird: Thuillier Frederic. From 1921 to 1930 the kings again followed one another, the last of this series, Lucet Alphonse reigned until April 30th, 1933 date on which LUCET Marcel was elected and remained the last known King of the Company of the Knights of the Play of Arc of Longperrier.

Local history, names of the streets

Each street name of longperrier is related to an activity or a history of the past. The street of Maincourt is a memory of the field of Maincourt, called Moïencourt formerly. This field left another trace, since a locality, at the exit or is commune is still called “the Field”. On both sides of this way, one finds the street of Hamel leading to a small hamlet, called the Village; the street of the Culvert, thus called because of a small bridge spanning a ditch, the lane of the Osiery, with the evocative name, and that of the Shepherds recalling that the herds of formerly borrowed it to gain the close grazing grounds. At the beginning of the street of Maincourt, one also finds the street of the Ford of the Forks. This one has a curious little story. Improperly called street of the Laundrette because it led to the laundrette existing with the site of the current set of balls, it crossed the farm of the Abbey formerly. For reasons easy to include/understand, the owners asked for his displacement with this intention by giving up a band of their grazing ground. Why this Ford of the Forks? It is that at old times, the forks patibulaires, in other words the brackets (gibets), were drawn up on the hillock of Dammartin, with the place precisely called “justice”, about with the current site of the radar. And condemned come from bottom from the hillock passed by the street of the Ford of the Forks, crossing the sources at the favourable places. The street of the Fish pond, more peaceful, had with the current site of the room of the Fish pond, a pond supplied with a source come from a pre neighbor. This pond, formerly fish pond, were used thereafter as feeding trough then were given up and filled when the running water was installed in the village. As for the street of Bordet, it made it possible to go until a bordery, farm of low importance to the site of which part of the Sefers workshops is. The way of the Grass, joined the two ends of the village while crossing a zone of orchards, today quite abandoned. The street of Cop recalls that the current places were formerly property of princes de Condé who exchanged these grounds against those that had the monks of Chaâlis to the ponds of Commelles, located in the forest of Chantilly, property of the Cop. By this exchange, the princes of Condé had all the forest to drive out and the Abbey of Chaâlis became main farm and grounds of part of Longperrier.

Religious heritage

Holy-Madeleine church 12th/17th: She is characterized by a square bell-tower, a polygonal apse, a bedside with 3 sides with large window of axis. One finds also vast canopies, stone a gate vault of the 15th century, a tomb stone of 1636, a panel painted at the 17th century, painted wood statuettes.

Economy

The economy of the commune of Longperrier is mainly based on its zone of activity where one can find a supermarket food, a garden-center, a dealer car and small ten small shops. The Center-ville is as for him rather residential, the only trade remaining to date being a grocer. All that is due to the geographical position of the city. Indeed, the commune is close to the chief town of canton, Dammartin-in-Goële, which has many small shops but has little place. Longperrier thus logically could accommodate the retail park as well as the Lycée.
