Longford ( Year Longfort in Irish) is a city of the Comté of Longford in Irish Republic.
Its name comes from long Irish (boat) and phoirt (port).
Following a raid, Viking S were installed on this site. It did not constitute a city itself, and its territory was under the domination of the local clan, which directed the center and the south of the county of Longford (which then constituted the kingdom of Anghaile or Annaly). The city was also known under the name of Longphort Uí Fhearghail (Extremely of O' Farrel).
The Dominican founded a priory in 1400 there.
