Longane
The longane is the Fruit longan ( Dimocarpus longan ), a small tropical tree of Asia. The longane is called longani with the Meeting. Its name comes from Chinese 龙眼 (pinyin: length yan), which means Œil of dragon .
Fruit
A bunch of longanes account approximately 30 fruits. The fruit has a fine external skin and lasts, comparable with an egg shell, translucent pulp is very sweetened and surrounds a large black, hard and brilliant seed. The longane can sometimes reach the size of a ball of Ping-pong.
The tree
The longan resembles much the tree of the Litchi and the Ramboutan. It has pushed with the Vietnam for more than 2.000 years. The longanes are cultivated in north and in the south of the country but the fruits of north are larger.
Uses
The longane is a noble fruit, very consumed in Southeast Asia. He eats himself mainly fresh.
One can also make it dry whole. The skin keeps its initial size then and the flesh is tightened around the core. It is consumed such as it is or out of infusion, for its medicinal virtues.
One of the varieties of the fruit is called the longane pepper because its seeds resemble the grains of Poivre.
