Lomagne

The Lomagne (in Gascon Occitan Lomanha ) is a natural area of the North-East of the Gascogne, between Gers and Tarn-et-Garonne.

It reappears today with a Communauté of communes to economic and in particular tourist purpose.

Chief town

The principal and capital city historical is Lectoure.

Localization

Lomagne is consisted of the low valley of the Gers starting from the canton of Montestruc-on-Gers and of the territories more in the East delimited by the course of the the Garonne.

Etymology

Its Gascon name is the Lomanha (traditional standard) or Loumagne (standard mistralienne-phébusienne). According to some it would derive from alomanha/aloumagne , the Ormaie, of ulmus , Orme.

History

The Lactorates (of Lectoure ) are the ancient people correspondent with this province.
