Loituma

Loituma is a Quatuor Finnish which associates the vocal traditional songs with the sounds of the Kantele (Finnish toothing-stone). Loituma was selected “group of the year” to the festival of Musique folk of Kaustinen of 1997.

History

The first appearance of Loituma took place with the end of the year 1989 in the form of a Septet called Jäykkä Leipä ( dry bread ), in very respected department of music folk of the Académie Sibelius.

The original formation included the singers Sanna Kurki-Suonio and Tellu Paulasto, which left in Sweden to join the group Hedningarna. Anita Lehtola is member at the same time of Loituma and Hedningarna.

To the wire of time, the group went on its own musical way, integral in its songs of the influences of various origins.

One of the bases of the Finnish music folk is the art of the song which makes it possible to tell stories and feelings in an unequalled way. The songs transport the listener in the Finnish heritage, helped by the basic music of Martti Pokela and Toivo Alaspää. Another specificity of Loituma is to use a Kantele, which allows a whole variety of sounds.
