Loimaa

Loimaa is a city south-west of the Finland, in the area of Finland of South-west.

History

The parish finds its origin around the year 1400. It is then located at the borders of Finland of South-west and the Häme. The rather rich grounds allow the establishment of many agricultural small villages.

The destiny of the municipality changes with the arrival of the railway Turku - Toijala into 1876. The new station of Loimaa becomes the focal point of the parish. A small industrial, commercial and administrative center develops.

In 1922, Loimaa is separated from the farming community of Loimaa . It becomes a city in 1969 and the two communes are finally reunified at January 1st 2005.

Geography

The commune is relatively plane and remains very agricultural. The two principal centers of population, Loimaa-city and the old center of the farming community (Hirvikoski), are distant only of 3 kilometers.

The city is crossed by the river Loimijoki, the main thing tributary of left bank of the Kokemäenjoki which it joined with height of Huittinen.

The road main axe is main road 9 (E63) come from Turku (to 65 km) and continuing towards Tampere (92 km).

The common neighbors are Mellilä in the south, Pöytyä in south-west, Oripää in the west, Alastaro in the North-West, Punkalaidun in north (Pirkanmaa), Humppila in the North-East and Ypäjä in the east (both in the Kanta-Häme).
